Going Steddie

I gave into the urge I've been fighting for weeks and started a Eddie Munson/Steve Harrington comm. In the 5 months since season 4 vol 1 came out there have been 10,781 posted to AO3. There is good fic out there, but it's a jungle.

Best case scenario, this comm becomes a good place for recc lists, metas, random chatter. Worst case scenario it's a good index of writing resources. I've started setting up the profile page with links, resources, references, etc. I am not ready to start promoting it, maybe after the weekend it will be set.

The one thing I need to figure out is whether to allow 3+ ships that include Steve/Eddie. I am fine with having it and just requiring it to be under a cut. But one of the joys of a pairing specific space is not having the content you'd rather not see there. Some of the popular 3+ groupings involve Billy or Robin, which some people find upsetting. Might be better to just not allow it. Just need to figure out what to do and how to word it... ya know in case more than three people ever join and interact. This might be just me making my reference materials public :)

Joined, even though I likely won't have much to contribute. :P

I'd personally be a-okay with 3+ ships being included (below a cut so there's no appearance of it taking over the comm), though if it ever became an issue of it outweighing the mono-ship, maybe a quarantine post for "Steddie-but-not-just-them" recs?

Though I suppose that DOES maybe put the cart before the horse at the moment, ha.

Yeah, we'll have to see how things go with the comm. I hate Harringrove and would love to never see it again. Some people might not join because they don't even want to be in a comm where Robin/Steve is allowed at all and I can't blame them. But I'd like to allow 3+ ships. It's just pretty tricky with this pairing.

I might go with disallow at the start and then do a poll down the road.

Though I guess that also makes for potential grey area when it comes to fic that has Steddie endgame, but has them in other ships to begin with. (Though frankly, I'm not sure how much of A Thing that is in the fandom anyway.) HMMM. It doesn't seem like it should be that complicated, and yet...

I feel like disallowing is fine. Or maybe a quarantine post where works with 3+ can be recced in the comments, so it's findable for people who want them, and easily ignorable for people who don't.

Yeah, I've disallowed it for now. I can always revisit later and there is no reason to enforce the rules super strictly.

And, you're right, having a limit on self promo might help encourage it. It's also... less weird than being all 'please do post your stuff'! That can feel very twee

Yeah, it can be a fine line between "encouraging" and "twee". Hopefully knowing how much = too much will help encourage people to not worry about accidentally hitting that point.
