* I haven't posted much because I've been following some Cryptodrama that is hilarious... but it involves Logan Paul. I don't know if I want to post about Paul brothers drama. I will say that he posted a rebuttal video to current accusations that... confirmed pretty much everything, but then said it wasn't his fault that all his employees were criminals. In the lamest attempt at a gotcha ever he said claimed that the 'internet investigator' looking into this missed that his employees weren't just criminals, but had done actual jail time. How could anyone call themselves an investigator if they missed that his employees had done jail time? Checkmate.

Logan Paul: My employees weren't just criminals and con artists, they are ones who've been caught before and served time!

I like following crypto stuff, but this is crypto stuff with added Paul brothers type idiocy. Also like more money has been stolen, more exchanges closed and uh oh, some NFTs are showing the wrong images in wallets because NFTs have no real link to the image and do not actually contain an image. NFTs contain a url and what image is at the URL can be taken down or changed to porn gifs.

I am surprised that no one has swapped the images before. Even I've done that! A lot of these NFT projects with stolen art don't even rehost the art, because the rehosted art can be taken down. Back in ye olde days of the internet, I used to have paid image hosting... so people would hot link my images. When I saw unusual number of hits, I'd track down whatever blog was using ME as an image host and hand pick what pictures I wanted to show up on their blog instead of my memes or photography.

There's this one image, I don't have it anymore, it's a tattoo of a dragon and a piercing is the dragon's eye and... IYFYK Yeah some nature blogs got that on their front page.

I feel both like there is no drama like cryptodrama, and ALSO like all that is old is new again.

But what a terrible self-own. "Haha, you thought my employees were criminals? Turns out they were WORSE CRIMINALS THAN YOU THOUGHT! Checkmate, atheists!"

I'm amazed that no one saw the "swapped images" thing coming though, lmao. I thought that was a pretty common prank (in the way you used it, to punish bandwidth thieves, or just to fuck with someone who hotlinked) not ALL that long ago!

The criminal he hired that stole 7 million from the project? Doesn't matter because Logan fired him, he's no longer involved. IDK if this is him playing dumb or if his life has been so consequence-free that this makes sense to him.

When I first heard of NFTs, image swapping was one of my first thoughts. How has this not been rampant is beyond me.

Man, I hardly know which is sadder - that he thinks consequences just aren't real, or if he really thinks that playing super dumb is a winning move.

Right? I kept thinking that there must have been some obvious failsafe with NFTs that I was just somehow missing to prevent image swapping, otherwise people would be doing that all the time to fuck with people, right?

NFTs are like Logan Paul, it's hard to wrap your head about how dumb they are. A lot of people don't get NFTs because their mind rejects just how dumb they are and they think they are missing something.

With non-stolen art the project can self-host on web 2.0, but that has ongoing costs and NFTs don't make ongoing revenue. The hosting wont last long term. NFTs will lose their associated images over time one way or another.

For real. It's SO dumb that it seems like it can't possibly be as dumb as it is, so we have to be missing something that undumbs it, right? (No. It is just that dumb.)

Considering that image hosting has been a HUGE point of contention forEVER because of those costs... it's batshit to me that anyone didn't consider that it would become an issue. (Though it's deeply funny to imagine the world where NFTs all wind up replaced by broken image links, or "this image has been moved or deleted" placeholders...)
Of course, it's really more like anyone who did consider that potential issue shrugged and decided it wouldn't be their problem, because they were going to sell it to some other chump by then.

Also, all the image hosting is web 2.0. The idea of 3.0 being The Future just makes no sense because everything that currently exists is fully dependent on 2.0.

I think that's why the Josh Strife Hayes NFT video had so much repetition, it was just so hard to get across exactly how dumb they are.

That's also extremely true! So much of the newest shiniest greatest 3.0 shit... absolutely relies on the framework and architecture of 2.0. There's been very little that I've seen from 3.0 actually *building* or *providing* anything. Like, yes, blah blah it's all on the blockchain blah, but... rip away everything that 2.0 provides, and so very much would utterly fall apart.

And yeah... it takes quite a bit of repetition to really make it clear JUST how dumb so much of it all is.
