* This may not look like progress, but it is.





A lot of placeholder stuff now has finalized lines. Guitars are different guitars. I added some space around the bed because the boys will want items up there, and also not want those items to be the first thing people see when entering. A more open bed is cuter, but just didn't work. Also, either of them sleeping next to a sheer drop off?

Still need to add entryway, kitchen, more items... huh I can add a sideview of the hall closet like I did with the wardrobe


* So far RSS is not great as a replacement news source. I don't need to see the same story about a girl asking police to DNA test a cookie Santa took a bite out of to prove he's read... and I really don't need to four times, NPR! Ugh, so much fluff. I need to find better sources. As I suspected, this may take a while to polish.

* I may have had BBQ lentil chips for dinner. It's been a loooong week.

I keep forgetting to set up an RSS feed, lol. But that's unfortunate that it's not been a great news source. I mostly want to sort it out to follow creators that post to their own sites (and so are 100% out of my sight and therefore mind), but I'd hoped to use it for some basic news headlines as well. But ugh, that's a story I wouldn't care about seeing once, much less repeatedly. Bleh.

I hope you had BBQ lentil chips for dinner and that they were good!

Yeah, RSS is good for following creators, but I'd be pretty unaware of the developing BLM situation in Memphis if I didn't still check twitter both for trending topics and also the very short list of people I still follow.

I did and they were good! Just nice to have something different for once :)

I barely heard about the stuff happening in Memphis, until today when the charges were filed. I feel like there's a lot of big news things that I miss, unless someone I follow on tumblr mentions it, or it happens to come up as a suggested news article... yet the "suggestions" I get for news seem to get worse and worse.

And good! I'm glad they were good and a chance to have something out of the ordinary!

I heard a few days ago that stores in Memphis were making plans for possible riots this upcoming weekend. They pretty much insta fired the cops and that never happens so fast.

I plan to avoid seeing the footage. Yay for extensions that nuke auto-playing.

Keeping on top of the news is hard. Any outlet I follow wants to fill the feed with fluff and ... the police did DNA test the cookie like the little girl asked. Why? And why is this in my feed five times over? Police humoring a kid trying to prove santa is real by dna?

I'd heard about protests escalating in Atlanta, but yesterday (day before?) was genuinely the first I'd heard about what was going on in Memphis, and that's a little distressing to me! Though yeah, it was very much an insta-action against the cops in question.

Yeah, I'll be hardcore avoiding seeing the footage. I appreciate things NOT autoplaying so damn much.

UGH. I GOT THE STUPID SANTA COOKIE DNA STORY TODAY ON FB. And UGH. Like... I don't want to be That Person who is just. utterly without whimsy or humor. But that strikes me as borderline offensive when there are months or YEARS-long backlogs of things like rape kits to solve, y'know, actual crime, but y'know, we just don't have the resources to get all those DNA tested! But yeah, let's fast-track this to humor a kid for a cutesy-wootsie story about Christmas cookies and carrots. Whether they actually DID use "real" resources on it or not, it rubs me the wrong way.

It is not that I hate fun or whimsy or whatever - I find the story about how NORAD started "tracking Santa" all cute and stuff, whatever. But I don't love fluff being presented as vital news, and I realize that I'm likely statistically in the minority, but I get DEEPLY frustrated by an awful lot of "feel good" stories.

I don't need to be super in the loop on all the things, but I want to at least be aware of big things. Locally I seeing people upset because they'd have planned to get out of downtown early if they knew. I haven't heard of trouble here yet, but... we are Portland. Also, I am skipping my planned photo walk tonight just in case. Eh, maybe I will go out but not to where I planned.

The cookie DNA story is dumb and creepy and everything about a cute little girl having the police do this rubs me the wrong damn way. It is a waste of resources and is just so overall bizarre.

Definitely. I'm not, nor do I want to be, a "news junkie", and trying to know about every single thing going on is a losing battle and a crazy-maker. But knowing big things is definitely important, and it's frustrating when it seems hard to find those big things out. I hope there's nothing major that goes down near you.

Exactly! Everything about it rubs me the wrong way. The fact that I saw an official news article about that before I saw one about a major police brutality case - though within a day or so of that brutality case becoming prominent - feels deeply gross.

Yeah, I want news to be a small, contained part of my life but it's such a mess these days. Outside of elections and Big Things Happening then news should be like 15 minutes of my day. But, that's just not sufficient to stay informed and also dodge the BS. Part of my news routine is just glancing at stuff to see if it's real and it's like nope, it's not.

Yeah. News stuff has the potential to just be SO MUCH, and the doomscroll is a real threat.

But that is WAY too true - just doing a basic fact-check of a few different headlines can eat up a lot of time.
