* The new big video game is Atomic Heart and... don't we have embargos against Russia? The company is claiming it's office in Cyprus is it's HQ, but all the developing and funding is Russian, it happened to drop on the anniversary of the Ukrainian invasion, has anti-Ukranian imagery... and Russian media and other sources report it as a Russian game.
But, on the other hand, giant robot boobs. So, who cares if people are currently confused why this was for sale in places like the US and UK, since it was financed by Russia and was developed in Russia. The composer for the game has donated all the money he made from the game "to
redcrossau’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal to stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine." link. Since game development takes a long time, his involvement was back in 2020, before the invasion but had since come to view the money he made from the game in a different light.
How much anti-Ukrainian imagery is in the game I don't know. This is the exact sort of thing I don't trust most media to report correctly since they so often get stuff about video games wrong. But, that aside... this game should 100% fall under the embargo no matter how entrancing giant robot boobs are.
The developers claim the game does not comment on politics, despite being set in a world where Russia came out of WW2 in a better state and created a beautiful land where robots do manual labor freeing up people to live as they wish.
So yeah, gaming world's been spicy recently.
* Also, new Lord of the Rings movie because of course they are going to. They were always going to. This would have happened sooner if not for Rings of Power. Shortly before the announcement streaming rights for the PJ movies moved from Amazon, which was selling itself as the home of all things Tolkien for a while, to Netflix. So, licensing has been reworked and who knows what this means for Rings of Power?
Also, no joke, I'd been saying that new LOTR films would be announced around 2020 because that is how modern franchises and licensing works, which has lead a lot of people to be pissed at me and say the studios wouldn't dare. I was nearly right... probably. Still, technically, this might not be a reboot. There might be another plan in mind. It will be a while before we know for sure.

Date: 2023-02-24 11:12 pm (UTC)From:I started watching Rings of Power in September and am just now getting back to it and am in the middle of episode 3.
If they do do something else I hope it's better than this. I can take quite a bit of canon divergence, and the sets are gorgeous, but the writing is sooooo bad!!!! Just boring!
