* Yeah, I guess I will make this into a Trello post. I finally got my VHS fic to where I could make myself ask for a beta on a Stranger Things server. Connections with other writers, having interacting during the writing process, I want this! I'd planned to have a fic I could ask for a beta for back in December but then timing didn't work out. Honestly, if I'd gotten this fic in some sort of shape my chances of getting someone to talk to would be much higher. Maybe I've missed my window... but at least I asked?

(I keep seeing WGA people talk about how important writers working with writers instead of seclusion is and it's like... yeah... about that...)

The fic is in much better shape at least. I only now just checked and Scrivener says it's about 50 pages in paperback format so I feel a little better at how long this has taken me. It's a fifth of a novel!

* As a break I went a did some work on a few old WIPs. I'm not going to focus on any of them right now, but I got some good work done in getting them into better shape. I will get these done, but they aren't what I am focusing on right now.

* Though, what am I focusing on now? I'd like to do something short between these bigger projects? Can I magically remember some old D&D chestnut I can easily use for a story like I did with the Tenser's Floating Disk thing?

Congrats on getting the VHS fic to a good point.

Connecting with other writers is so hard, ugh. I hope you get a bite for the beta-ing!

Nice job getting things into better shape for when you are ready to focus on them!

Same... It would be nice to feel able to join up with an active fandom doing event stuff in order to make those connections, but I'm bad at both of those things, lol.

Same here. I feel like the number of successful events I've seen (because I mostly only see the evidence of success, when I see fics and art getting shared) skewed my idea of how often fandom events go well vs. how often they fall apart. The very first fandom event I participated in was back on LJ and would have been... 2008? That one fell apart because there were only two of us that finished our fics. The next one I tried was a Big Bang in 2019, I think. That one also fell apart, though a fairly large number of participants got together and reformed the event anyway. I'm grateful that that one got me back into fic writing, but the event was still a mess.
Theme weeks or longer running annual events tend to go better, it seems like, though those are still subject to potential pitfalls.

Ugh. THAT is also a problem - some long-standing spaces have become havens for the people who get booted from everywhere else for their bad behavior, ha.
Part of me is sad I've never really participated in Yuletide, because it IS such a fandom staple, but then I hear about the wank.

I think I get what you mean!

Ugh, that sucks. Unfortunately that seems like a common problem in smaller spaces. (And in a smaller space, the shitty people stand out more than on a larger platform where it's easier to avoid them.)

Hopefully the Steddie big bang does end up with another round! :D

I definitely hope so!
