Tár is on Amazon Prime so I just watched it. I'd been wanting a chance to watch it for a while, especially since I heard very divided things on it.
I really enjoyed it. It might be a strange film to enjoy, but I am used to arty dramas like this being sort of a chore to watch and this was so well made, so polished, so well acted and shot that it was a very elevated movie experience... mostly. Except for the start. The ballsy MFers put the credits at the start. They really went 'oh, want to see our film? Sit through the credits first'. Damn that was a move. I was sitting there like '...what?'
The film is all about control and that opening move really establishes it. But, once you're past that it's very smooth sailing even though our protag is in a very tangled web and we never even see one of the major figures impacting her life.
