* Ever have issues you hear a ton about, but just don't want to add to how much it's talked about? Then eventually you just want to soap box about it way late to the party? So, anyway these are my thoughts on the FextraLive Embed controversy... just kidding. But seriously, I just need to be a bit louder sometimes because otherwise I will turn into old man yelling at cloud.

* Usually I outrun spoilers, but that isn't going to happen with Baldur's Gate 3. I've blocked a bunch of tags on tumblr due to it giving me suggested posts. We'll see how this goes.

* So, I was wrong when I said BG3 hit 7x the amount of concurrent players as they planned for, they had already broken 8x. Again, I shouldn't be this stunned that I bought a AAA game and it actually works, just works. It really shows the sad state of the gaming industry that I am shocked the game is playable at launch, especially a RPG style game.

* Ten day forecast no longer shows a streak of 100+ days, but still a good thing to keep a weather eye on.

That's the first I hear anything about Fextralife! I assumed it was going to be like, Fetlife drama or something, but nope it's Twitch and shitty Wiki practices. My favorite! /s 🙃

The name makes me do a double-take, too. If I was a streamer, I'd be super frustrated with them, too, but they are gamers who are gaming the system. I can't be mad.

Oh, I don't care about that, I care about putting annoying embeds into Wikis. Fandom (the company, formerly Wikia iirc) does it plenty already and it's grating, we don't need wiki admins doing it to boost their own views. It's hostile to users, it makes the wiki more inaccessible and it can be really shit if you have a slow internet connection. So um, yeah, exploiting users online pisses me off lol.

Yeah, those are good points. I look at it more from the streamer angle where they... I think of Fextralife as specific person and keep wanting to write she, but I guess it's a team/group now. But anyway, the artificial numbers are bad for the site and other streamers. People can artificially look like the Top Streamer and the main person behind the whole thing is a mid streamer at best. The first time I went to twitch it was for a big hype video game and I wanted to chat with other players, but the biggest stream was the Fextralife one, by like 5x, so I thought that was the place to be. All I saw I was a mid streamer who wasn't very good at the game and I dismissed twitch as a place to watch to watch girls play video games and didn't try it again for a year.

With Baldur's Gate 3 out and them having a large skeleton of a wiki with good SEO due to the long early access period, I keep hearing people going 'fucking Fextralife...'

It's weird that Twitch counts embed views since the hustle behind a lot of those 'free online puzzle games' is that a twitch stream is running either tiny in the bottom or invisibly. It lets people pretend to be top dog of their category and sometimes that puts people off of the category entirely.

Huh, interesting! I don't really watch streams because they don't jive with my neurodivergence and I never really understood what people get out of it, so that answers that. And that does sound like it massively sucks, yeah.

There is a lot to streaming when you dig into it. For GW2 it's my 'chat with fellow players in a moderated space' place. The mod tools on twitch are top notch, which is why streamers aren't jumping to platforms with a better revenue split. But I also follow an NB interracial guy who livestreams paranormal investigations of historical buildings. So, yeah, a lot of different stuff going on there. Mostly I like it for a social media type place that is typically heavily moderated.

The Fextralife stuff sucks, but it's fully withing twitch's dumb rules.
