* Photowalked a bit last night. Rain was pretty heavy so I don't think I got many shots, but it's been too long.

I've made a list of locations I want to get to / shoot this month. I think that is the approach I am going to lean into for now.

* I've watched a bit of Living For The Dead and it's by the same production team as Queer Eye. Wow, is it by the same production team. On the good side, I think they picked some interesting people. On the other side, they try to frame the show as the team solving the hauntings and... what? These locations literally rent themselves out to various investigation teams. Lots of people like them come through. This whole storyline they are trying to force doesn't even make sense. I am a bit into the second episode and one of the team has literally been there before to make content.

Also, they are trying hard to make the Spooky Five seem like an instantly bonded family, just like they do with the Fab 5

I don't know what I expected dot gif

On one hand you've got locations with actual dark histories and people who at least appear to take things seriously. On the other hand you've got campy reality show vibes going on and it's almost filmed like it's a sitcom about paranormal investigators. Putting these two things together, does it work?

This is how they shoot the video diaries. Great shot composition! But like... not only is it staged but you are filming her rather than using her actual video diary. Bits of the hand-held-camera-POV are used, but rarely and only for like a second. It's shot like it's a fictional, scripted show about these people. There isn't even a pretense that the 'experts' are in control of anything.

And, that was way more analysis that this overproduced show deserves.

Oof.

Yeah, I can see that striking a weird tone, and kind of undercutting the ways in which I'd hope the people involved are taking it seriously. Bummer.

If I end up watching it, I will let you know!

Yeah, there's a lot of stuff that hits that weird "is this meant to feel so staged?" place, but it's weird to draw attention to it (like by sharing video of them filming their diaries rather than the diaries they're filming.) It does sound like it may have been a mismatch between what different parties intended it to be.

That line between earnest and keyfabe can be a thin one.
