With the full original cast and everything.

The original The Gamers film was a short, independent production. A rip of the video went viral online in the pre-youtube days. But, because people attitudes towards paying for content was drastically different back then, enough people sent them movie to fund a second film. It's decent, very low budget.

The Gamers 2: Dorkness Rising is great and can be watched as a stand alone. It's trying to be two things at once, but for a fully independent film about table top gaming in 2008 it's amazing. Sadly, they went with traditional distribution and got screwed. For their big launch at GenCon, which they promoted with the last of the budget, they didn't have the DVDs yet. The actual first screening wound up being at Gamestorm and only happened because me and someone else brought in tech from Kumoricon. I loved the film, but it was sad to see that even by then they only had a handful of the actual product to sell.

The Gamers 3: Hands of Fate - They held on, pushed hard, dug deep and managed to get a third film done where they'd have more control over the actual distribution. One problem, the script sucked. 2 and 3 had been written back to back. 2 has some dated references but holds up. 3 was dated in a bad way even by the time 2 had finished production. It's cringe. The plot revolves around a niche gaming fandom drama that people had moved on from probably before 2 came out.

I can explain the drama in excruciating detail if anyone wants, but the short version is that gaming convention goers did not take well to the original wave of pokemon kids flooding their spaces.

20 years later they have the whole original cast back. I'm pulling for them and have backed them. I mean, for a group of geeks to get a few movies made as a passion project is remarkable even if the quality is uneven. If they hadn't gotten kneecapped by distributor problems they might have even become a pretty big deal instead of a pretty niche thing.

Also, my eternal curse is that the gaming memes and references I want to make are always The Gamers related, and everyone else references real plays I haven't seen.
