My one-bag for the trip and my boots on the ferris wheel over the docks. You can't see the layers of islands and mountains in the distance very well in this shot, but I was looking at them and becoming more determined to explore all those places.
Travel pro-tip - if you are going to be on a trip with a lot of walking, bring brand new boots so you can use the trip to break them in. Nothing can go wrong with this plan.
The boots themselves were actually fine, but the sock on my left leg kept slouching and creating a terrible friction point against my achielles tendon. I will not admit to what I let a store charge me for a few band-aids. I need to figure out a good sock situation for these. Also, that is my new bag, the one Rubi admired, but you can't see why in this shot. I will do a separate bag/packing ramble post soon.

I had to check out the local cider scene. This is a cucumber cider from Locust and it was amazing. It was so refreshing I nearly downed the whole thing, which would have been a problem as I hadn't had lunch yet.
I mostly just walked the city. It was cool to be up in Seattle. It's a big city, but still very PNW. I do want to spend more time up there, but really, really, want to go exploring Puget Sound and the ferries. I walked by the ferry dock at one point and remembered last time I used it, feels like ages ago.
Maybe being out walking from morning until my train at 8 PM was a bit overly ambitious, but I do enjoy being on a train at night.

Huh, we have a Locust Cider taproom really close to us - I haven't been there yet, and didn't realize they were a Washington company! I love the logo. I don't think I could do cucumber cider (cucumber is an impossibly overpowering flavor to me), but I can see the appeal of something refreshing like that... good job NOT downing the whole thing on an empty stomach, lol.
I haven't ever been to Seattle, though for a brief time as a teen/early 20-something I had a very strong desire to move there. Never did, obviously, though an ex and a high school friend both ended up there.
It sounds like it was a good trip, minus the new boot-terrible sock combo.

I went to Seattle a few times before I moved to the PNW, it's the one place here that I'd been. It was kinda odd wandering around the piers that I'd been on with my parents and grandparents.
Yeah, it was a great trip.

Date: 2024-09-05 06:18 am (UTC)From:Man, it sucks they'd only sell six-packs. I scoped their website and there are several of those flavors, both from the regular list and the seasonal ones, that sound really good. Might have to visit the taphouse here at some point.
I'm glad the cucumber one worked for you! I'd be willing to try a sip, but don't think I could make myself commit to a whole glass, lol. But there are a bunch I'd like to try.
Seeing places you saw when you were younger is weird. It's nostalgia-adjacent, I guess, but that's not quite it. Seeing things as an adult, alone, when it was always a different context when you were there before.
I'm so glad it was a good trip!

Date: 2024-09-11 01:03 am (UTC)From:Also true - I should take advantage of it being the season for it and try some new (at least new to me) flavors. I hadn't even thought about using some to cook, though. It does often take me two sittings to actually finish a can, which feels silly, so I'm a little vindicated to not feel quite so alone, haha.
