The staff didn't expect that many people to show up at opening on Friday, neither did the vendors and maybe not the building maintenance people. I know that our convention center can handle higher density of people and tech, but the HVAC wasn't keeping up. It wasn't a hot mess, but it was a warm, muggy mess. I am sure that I've been to con with more con funk, but none come to mind right now.

Line management was chaos. Twice I was in a very slow line and it turned out to be the wrong line. The first time, I checked with two separate staff members that I was in the right line. It was not and I had to start at the back of other long line. I'd pre-bought con merch, so I should have have no line, but I was in line twice.

One of the few things I wanted to do was the Voodoo Ranger beer garden. They supposedly had a RCCC Hero Lager they were pouring. So I went into the line at the bar with the giant Voodoo Ranger backdrop up to a guy wearing a Voodoo Ranger T shirt, but he could only pour Fat Tire. I had to go to a different line for Voodoo. I just left. The guy was yelling at me to get into the other line, but I was just like, nope, this was supposed to be my break from the chaos.

Some of the vendors, all their art and stickers and everything, huge investment in time also printing costs, and all their products were for creators that, uh, people have recently gotten very different opinions of. One booth in particular I passed it and was like 'oh no, this really sucks for you'

I am glad I went. I shopped and chatted with a few cool people. But, I didn't fully explore the exhibit hall or the con. At a point I was like 'I've been carrying this print for hours and somehow it's still intact, some of the vendors look ready to pass out, time to head home'.

RCCC is usually very organized, but man, today was rough. I am hoping it's just because The World decided to all descend on the opening to beat the crowds.

Bummer about how bad the line management was. That's one of the things I remember being most frustrated by at big events - discovering that a line that seemed obviously marked (or you were even told was correct!) was not in fact correct.

Also bummer for the vendors that have hit a bad tide in terms of fandom and the creators of the canons in question. :/ I can guess.
