I decided to do a very short little loop Friday night and call it good. I am glad I did because the sidewalks were in worse shape than I thought they'd be. I figured that foot/scooter/etc traffic would have worn away most of the crud, but I was wrong. On my way home the slush was becoming more structured, on it's way to becoming sheets of bumpy ice.

I have to say, this had a lot of impressive displays. There are dozens of meh ones I saw and didn't even shoot. I never made it over to the Williams business distract cluster or a few other spots. Still, one of the displays covered an entire city park, literally encapsulating the whole thing, in a shifting glowing rainbow prism

Okay, the park in question is Mill Ends, but it a city park! (Portland's famous teeny park. Portlanders basically pretended it was a real park until the city gave in)

At Glow Bar:

Okay, that is shinier than any d12 I own, but how would you even use it?

6.2 OBO to add to my duct taped bananas of Portland collection:

Mictlantecutli’s Home was a real stand out display, with a staircase done up as a dark jungle to walk down to it:

It's definitely something that works better in person than in images, but here is a short video from the entry into the space to give a bit more context.

I actually have a gimbal now and brought it every other night, I could have used it repeatedly on this outing. Oh well, I still barely know how to use the damn thing.

This was a moving display weaving with light, a reference to how anything digital has roots in knitting and weaving:

Roboto Octopodo: PRISM - This artist did a number of displays, but this was part of a while experience where a lady was doing intake for an experiment, and you went into an area with various art interactable art pieces. This was the focus:

There were other displays with interactive elements and buttons. You can see spiral with eyeballs in this youtube short I made.

This display was popular and crowded. Getting what pics I did took forever, and a full walkthrough with the mushrooms and stuff would have been cool. But, it was awesome to see how popular the display was. Glow Bar, one of the main anchor sites, had very few people. There were light displays and a sponsored bar and a live DJ, but only one person on the dance floor and like 12 people like me wandering around trying to take cool pictures. It was pretty funny, Portland art displays can be like that. Director's park had a massive disco ball and free s'mores but NO ONE was there so I didn't take pictures because the vibes were just sad. But yeah, Roboto Octopodo's displays were jumping.

I kinda want to do an expectations versus reality of PDX WLF at some point. Some people do extreme close ups to make rinky dink displays look cool. Like, literally one was just a dollhouse sized disco ball, but the image on the site looked impressive. For the more impressive displays, there are either no pictures, or just pictures of partial set up to not spoil the experience. And I'm not kidding when I say that some displays are literally 'store that sells lamps is open late that night' or 'house on Mississippi changed out their porch light for a colored light bulb' The festival contains multitudes.
