Jan. 6th, 2024 08:35 pmOkay, massive taking stock of my writing time. I am actually going to split this into 3 parts because one of them is going to contain a long ramble.
Part 1 -
* Finish current semi-published WIPs
* Finish current active projects like Moonflower
Not much to say here. Some of this would be done if not for (what I assume is) Covid. (The tests I got were missing the stick bit, but I am fairly sure of what this is)
Part 2 -
So, I am very much in a 'take projects and cut them down until I can post something' mode recently, as you might be able to tell from some of my recent art posts. For one fic project, just before all this hit, I decided that I would make it postable by just cutting it in half. Make it a shorter, more focused story. If I want to, the second half can become a separate chapter I can post much later.
Sometimes, it's better to let go of old WIPs. I have actually tossed many writing journals and old projects because they were weighing me down. I've done plenty of that. But, I also have a few older projects I really, really need to get out even if it means taking a hatchet to them or deciding perfect is the opposite of good. Some of these projects represent a lot of work and I need them out in the world already, one way or another.
Under this category is: What The Storm Dragged in (Steddie winding up in Portland), My Lovecraft-Steampunk Jeeves & Wooster story, My John Constantine / Original Male Werewolf story and a few others. My nearly-completed-but-needs-something Librarians fic and a few others also fall into this category
With my John Constantine story I might consider retooling that into something original. It's got a lot of original worldbuilding, an original main character, etc. IDK. I will have to think about it. Like, this might be me overestimating the story (or what it would be if I finish the damn thing), but... hrmm... Or I might rip out half the plot and make it a one night stand situation so I can post it and move on.
