I played the new Black Mirror episode. It's a choose your own adventure style thingie.

I loved the vibe, the acting, the aesthetics and the concept. I loved Colin.

But overall I found it unsatisfying. There is no 'good' ending. There is no mystery that is solved. There is no truth to what's going on that is confirmed. A few ending are meta and draw attention to it being a construct.

The main character could not make the game have an ending or a real meaning and that feels a bit meta to me.

I've played it to a bunch of endings and read about the others online. No good ending or revelation of what really happened seems to be possible.

One ending I got was dying with Mom as a child. That seemed to be the path the game wanted us to take. I've read some other comments and have seen others say the same. But nope, it doesn't seem to be the way forward.

I love Black Mirror, but I find it hit or miss. This is somewhere in the middle. Not as amazing as the memory chip one, not as pointless as the metal dog one. It was fascinating, but overall a bit empty.

I kind of wanted Stefan to fail, but learn from his failure and be okay, He's a young bloke and has the rest of his life to knock a creative project out of the park. I guess maybe making people think about the ending they wanted is interesting? But rejecting canon and putting in our own ending is old hat to fandom.

Of the endings I've read about, there is apparently a sitcom ending where Stefan winds up working for the company long term. I haven't see a clip of it, but that seems like the best one to me. He'd have peers, work on projects, etc. He wouldn't be isolated, insane or in jail. Maybe no perfect art piece of a game, but maybe a good life.
