There is an idea floating out there that may or may not happen. It involves a bunch of people in Good Omens cosplay going to the super pretentious wine bar OK Omens. The cheapest cider there is 30 bucks and yes, I want to know what a 30 dollar cider tastes like.

I am running into two problems. One - I can't find my short hair wigs. I have a wig for Tony Stark somewhere! Actually I just remembered who borrowed my one short hair wig and yeah, there is zero chance I am seeing that again. Crowley has red hair not black so the Tony Stark wig wouldn't have been perfect, but I keep picturing Crowley as having darker hair for some reason.

Two - Goodwill just got more evil. I've always had problems with them. The Salvation Army is far worse, but Goodwill is a place I'd rather not go in general. The other day they decided to fire disabled employees rather than have to pay then a new minimum wage. So they've gone from 'rather not' to 'no' in my books.

Not having a thrift store I'd give my money to makes last minute cosplays a lot more difficult.

I have boots for Crowley and not much else.

I still need to do something about how many wigs I have. I have a bunch I haven't used in an age.

I love this plan re: Mob @ OK Omens. I hope for many pictures when/if it happens.

And I knew that Goodwill was shitty, particularly with the sub-minimum wage they paid disabled employees, but this does make them even worse.

In CO we have ARC and a couple Savers... I don't know of anything that makes them awful on the scale of Goodwill and Salvation Army (and I hope there's nothing I'm just unaware of), but it sucks if you don't have any alternatives.

There are some other thrift stores, but they are small. Goodwill is really entrenched here with lots of giant stores.

I am going to start working on a Crowley cosplay. Even if it's not done, I wanted to get a new thing to wear in case of any Halloween parties this fall. I'd been pondering what to do.

Ugh. Goodwill is the worst. They aren't so entrenched here, but they're still the first thing most people think when they think "thrift store".

Good luck putting together the cosplay! I still hope for pictures as you get it pieced together. :D

If it makes the situation better, and keeps at least one non-Salvation Army option open for your hunts, the Goodwill crap appears to have affected only a small number of Goodwill outlets in central Illinois operated by one Goodwill group - and the decision has been reversed after the blow-up. Here are two stories about it.

I saw about the reversal, but they need to behave for a while for me to go back. They were barely on my okay list before this.

Some people need to shop there. I can get by with other options. I mainly use them for cosplay and as a way to shop for new jeans by being able to try on multiple brands at once.

Around here, in Chicago, you'd think there would be more than the Sally Ann or Goodwill, but not around me. Possibly Amvets, but they're hard to find, too. As soon as there was a Goodwill in our area, we switched to them from the Sally Ann, because we hated going to the latter because of their homophobic views. And since, with the exception of certain purchases from Costco, I get all my clothing at second hand stores, having a place to go was important.

I really need to get involved in some freecycle groups. I am a big believer in re-use for environmental and economic reasons. When I had to downsize I dragged a ton of stuff to goodwill when it would have been 1000x times easier to chuck it all.

I should see what other options exist here. There is another thrift store I know of, but it supports Catholic missionary work and no.
