I feel like I recc everything Matt Baume does, but this is so highly relevant to so many discussions about LGBTQIA+ rep in media. Why gay bars went from realistic to bizarre in TV, comparing a Starksy & Hutch episode with Murder She Wrote. Fandom is so often all 'well this show had rep, so there is no reason another show would face any problems.' Obviously, it's not that simple for a lot of reasons, but this helps break down the idea that rep always improves.
Okay, what else to recc?
Excited or 🍿 about the upcoming Vanyel TV series? A lot of the music from the books is on youtube. Roughly zero of it is on the official channels, but still, it's there. (Actually if the show happens there will be tightening up of rights, so these uploads will vanish.) I listened to Songs of Vanyel's Time so often in college they are almost strangely familiar after all these years.
The main photographer I follow on youtube, Robin Wong, is currently doing a podcast. He is in Malaysia and the country keeps disallowing outdoor photography and filming as part of anti-Covid measures. So he's doing a podcast for now. The linked video is on Originality in Photography. It starts with an Olympus-specific lens review, but then has a good talk on general photography after. Click here for timestamp to skip the lens review. His episodes on discipline and the problems with gear reviews are also good.
I can't think of anything else to recc right now, so three will have to be enough :)
