Lensbaby experiments

These are all going under a cut because I don't think any of these are 'keepers'. I usually only post pictures that meet a certain standard, but here are my attempts so far.





This one is almost a keeper. The composition is just a little funky because I had to shoot only seeing a small bit at the center so I could check focus. I carried a tripod and that would have solved the issue, but I didn't pull it out. Feels weird to use a tripod to shoot people's cars.









I will get a good shot of the Bagdad via a lensbaby, but last night was not my night. There was a homeless camp with a open bonfire in the parking lot behind me and I didn't want to set up a tripod or linger. I kinda did a run and gun.

I kinda need to figure out what photo elements I do and don't like, figure out what I consider a 'good' lensbaby photo.

I do like that first one, of the car.

The black and white shot of Bagdad has a neat vintage-y feel to it. In color it has a retro vibe with the neon, but I like the black and white better for some reason.

Yeah, the black and white version works nicely.

I like the car shot, but I think I could have done better.

I like how the black and white sharpens it a little (like seeing the lettering on the marquee), without losing the blur at the edges. I'm sure there are much more correct ways to say that, but I'm not finding them in my brain at the moment.

I can understand the reluctance to use a tripod in certain situations, even if it would make getting the shot easier. Like pictures of a car. (Though the car is interesting enough, I'd hope they wouldn't like... object. But still. That would feel weird.)

I need to carry my tripod more and use it at least sometimes. If I am in the habit of quick set up and take-down it might feel less stressful. A lot of my gear choices and what skills I've worked on involve being able to be very low key about shooting.

Yeah, a smooth setup and break-down would probably alleviate some of the awkward feeling! I think the low-key method and style of shooting has served you well. I'm sure it's contributed to the variety of things you're able to shoot.
