Just as a headed up, police brutality footage of the death of Tyre Nichols is so bad that multiple cities have been preparing to quell protests is being released sometime today. If video auto-plays in your browser, you might want to get an extension to block that.

I don't know how big this story will be, but a lot of places are preparing for it to spark outrage and for it to be mega-viral. Obviously, some of the delays, the insta-firing the cops and charging the cops with murder *before* the tape is even out are all moves hoping to lessen the impact. But, I am expecting this video to pop up in places would I would not typically witness a brutal murder. People who have seen the tape already have said both that everyone needs to see it and also that no one should ever have to watch it.

I think this story is going to be freaking huge - every single time I hear the video mentioned, terms like "horrific" accompany it. I'm fully expecting a lot of strong reactions once it's released

In some cities, kids are being being sent home early from school well ahead of the release. Hopefully, this is just an abundance of caution.

Sometimes people think that putting video and stuff like that were people don't expect it is activism, and that could be really traumatizing with this video.

I... expected it to be something along those lines in terms of how horrible it is. This is a good heads up. I saw one still image from it, posted unwarned for on someone's post about Tyre's death, and that was bad enough.

Fortunately, I haven't run into any people decided to post it off-topic in various spaces yet... but I've also been staying off of most social media.

Those are actually healthy responses. It sends a message that they won't protect bad apples and they feel murder is wrong even if a cop does it. That's a much better response than places that shield their bad apples from consequences.

So if people are going to protest under those circumstances, I would say -- what more do you want them to do? Hire more black officers? Review training procedures? You need more detailed demands because they already did the top two things that are usually requested. Which is not to say it's wrong of people to be wildly upset, but they should think about what they hope to accomplish.
