* I have photowalked a bit, but no luck on shots. I've just tread and retread the same ground too much. Need to fling myself to St Johns or something soon.
* I watched parts of Netflix's MH370 doc... and it sucks. I would love to be interested in the case and have my own theory, but there is not enough information. And yes, it is possible for things to disappear in this day and age. As a Oregonian, I can tell you that people massively overestimate the satellite imaging/cell coverage of this state, much less over the ocean. An untrained rando who found debris they think is a nose cone in the wrong ocean don't mean shit.
The whole situation has too few data points and that is just life. People base too much of their worldview on action movies and Dan Brown novels sometimes. Tho, I do think we may someday find out that people or governments are holding back information. But, we don't know who or what.
Also, this is juuuuust scuttlebutt, but I went to see what the people who do follow the case as an ongoing hobby were saying, and some said that in all their years of following the case they never heard about all these cell phone stuff that is being used to make the Malaysian government seem shady and/or clown shoes level of incompetent. The Malaysian government knew how much the eyes of the world were watching, the claims that they openly ignored leads doesn't make sense.

Date: 2023-03-10 04:17 am (UTC)From:I didn't realize there was a Netflix doc on this case. It's an interesting case, if a tragic one, but... sometimes stuff isn't actually evil conspiracy with an intentional villain, no matter how much people wish it was.
That IS interesting that people who have looked at the case don't come away with the same apparent thesis that the doc lands on... that definitely makes it sound a little iffy if the doc leans really hard on governmental evil/idiocy.

Date: 2023-03-10 04:40 am (UTC)From:A bit of evidence the doc dwells on, most people hadn't heard of it and those who had called it an unsourced twitter rumor.
I think a cargo fire is most likely and the turns do make sense if you think things through. I am fully willing to accept it was foul play of some kind, but we are light years away from having enough evidence to speculate what kind. We can stare for years, but there is not enough data to make a pattern. And the lack of info is not nearly as sus as people think it is

Date: 2023-03-11 02:41 am (UTC)From:Yeah, that's pretty sketchy for the doc, it sounds like. May make for a "good" story (if one that's worthy of a sideeye for the assertions it's creating), but it sounds like the actual evidence for it is thin.
True that evidence is fairly thin all around - we just DON'T know. So sure, it's very possible that there was some sort of foul play. Or that it was just an accident. Or a relatively benign case of negligence that led to a tragic outcome. It shouldn't be surprising, but it is frustrating when people decide that some sort of massive conspiracy coverup is the ONLY plausible explanation for a lack of conclusive evidence for what happened. Crime shows really have skewed people's expectations on how things work.

Date: 2023-03-11 04:49 am (UTC)From:What we do know about MH370 is weird, but also freak accidents happen. It's like people want it to be some sort of conspiracy because that's less scary than the basic fact that shit happens sometimes. Also, yeah, planes are typically out of communication for long stretches if they go over oceans. Even in 2023, that is just a thing... but people saw an action movie that said otherwise...
