* There were some BS articles yesterday claiming that The Writer's Guild of America is embracing and lobbying for AI in script writing. This is BS and here is the real stance. There has also been more legal confirmation that AI materials are not subject to copyright and there is guidance coming out from the US patent office that if you don't disclose what of your work is AI that you might lose your copyright entirely.

I'll be honest, when the ruling come in for the monkey selfie trial I felt bad for the photographer but now I realize how crucial that it helped cement case law on 'if a human didn't make it, no copyright'.

I am VERY glad that that is their official stance on it.

And agreed - at the time of the monkey selfie trial, it felt like the whole thing was a bit silly, and I was sorry the photographer had been dragged into it. Now I'm weirdly grateful for the whole thing.

Yeah, Variety and some other places ran some edgy headlines about Hollywood scriptwriters openly embracing AI and I was like 'well first off that don't make no sense'. Then WGA put out a clarification that was very nice to read.
