* Corey Doctorow isn't someone I follow directly, but a lot of people I do follow follow him. A lot of the language they and myself use to talk about the enshittification of online platforms comes from him, I think even the term enshittification. Anyway, he's doing a book via kickstarter:

"My next book is The Internet Con: How to Seize the Means of Computation. Verso will publish it on September 5. It's a book that distills 20 years' experience, fighting for digital rights. It explains how the internet curdled - and how we'll get it back."

We can 'get it back'? I don't know. Things have been on such a slide for so long it's hard to imagine, but if he's doing a book I am going to support the book.

I feel similarly about the book. #iwanttobelieve and all, and yeah, I DO want to believe that we can get the "old internet" back, or at least a true functional/spiritual progression from it... but a lot of the how as I understand the proposals require either a lot of new political pressure and regulation OR a lot of companies deciding that they should suddenly Do The Right Thing... But perhaps this book will have better thoughts on how those things can be accomplished!

If he's trying to do a thing, I'm in. Even if it doesn't work I'd rather hang with the people who want the old internet back. But yeah, it's a strange idea at this point.

Agreed! I *like* a lot of the ideas, I just don't know how we can actually get to realize them.
