* My computer seems stable... I've done all I can and am currently having no problems. But it's possible that me updating my drivers before BG3 came out actually created a problem where the computer can't go into protective low power mode or shut down mode because the graphics drivers were interfering. So, it's possible my computer would have become stable after the heat broke anyway, and maybe some of the thermal paste has been eaten.
Or maybe I am an informed and not out of touch citizen of the computer age and did smart things to save the poor system. In any case, shutting down each time there were problems may have saved motherboard / drives / thermal paste.
* With how huge Baldur's Gate 3 is there was hype backlash before the launch and there will eventually be some serious discourse. I can even guess what some of it will be. But, so far the main drama has been 'is it fair to call this game polished?' I could defend 'yes' as an answer at length but I am not going to bother. It's just so nice for that to be the main drama and not *stares into distance recalling the horrors from news stories about other companies, especially blizzard*
