* We are going to get between 0 and 15 inches of snow over the weekend. We are going to either have a cold snap or one down to 12f (-11c). Oh, the excitement of the unknown!
* Trailer for 3 Body Problem is out. I am curious how they adapt this. I had planned to have read the book before the show came out, but the start of the book is brutal and honestly I just wasn't in a mindset to handle that kind of dark. But I have it and can take another stab after the show comes out.

Date: 2024-01-11 11:51 pm (UTC)From:Though, actually the previous cold snaps and nights with 15 transformers blowing, I think we have a more robust energy infrastructure just because so many of the weak links have been eliminated.
And yeah, the roads can get terrible fast. We can't even manage to get the sidewalks clear. Was it last year we had that ridiculous gridlock and kids leaving school buses to try to walk? Things can get bad fast and we don't have ways to handle it

Date: 2024-01-12 04:27 am (UTC)From:I'm from the East Coast and have muddled through much worse, but we have properly banked roads, wider roads and lanes, more snowplows, buildings with more insulation, etc. I know it's been a spicy year for school scheduling, but it's nuts to me to expose adults and kids alike to the potential dangers. I hope you are warm and safe through it!

Date: 2024-01-12 04:59 am (UTC)From:ACME just sent out word that they're closing at 12:30, but I'm still concerned. I think I'll look at the weather reporting in the morning. if it's dicey, or if I'm still worried about it, I may well call out. don't really care if they ding me for the hours, as I'd rather be safely at home, just in case things go south earlier in the day than currently predicted
