* Can pixel and isometric tutorials please stop having intros like 'Pixel drawings are great for people who can't do art' or 'isometric isn't true perspective and is good for people who can't wrap their heads about even 1 point perspective'.

Just.... what?

* Did a short walk. I am just dealing with like over a month inside and... yeah trying to feel like a human-shaped object again. So... many dumpsters and rolls of wrecked carpet and piled wet insulation. Portland did not weather this storm well.

Also, the convenience stores near me are closed because so many people couldn't get to grocery stores that the convenience stores became too low on stock to bother staying open, cost wise. I went out to a Plaid Pantry last night as the clerk was putting up the 'on a 30 minute break sign' and she was like 'yeah, we're actually closing for a few days'. But she let me scoot in to buy a few things.

Looks like some schools will be closed until mid-Feb for repairs.

…that’s just a slightly more polite way to say ”this is great if you’re stupid.” 😑🙄

Yeah, and also, naïve art, anyone? Or... I don't know, icon art? There are so many art styles that have strict rules which doesn't make them any less art.

That seems so insulting! I hate when a tutorial on how to do something starts by shitting on the medium. Like, I guess it's trying to seem "easy" or "approachable" for people who feel intimidated, but it just comes off as preemptively disparaging the thing they're supposed to be helping someone to do!

I'm sorry Portland was hit so hard by the storm. It sounds like there's a lot of damage that'll take quite some time to get fixed. Yikes.

Yeah, that makes me sad. :( It's an approachable form of art, and one you can absolutely learn to do without a ton of preexisting knowledge or experience... but preemptively telling your audience that whatever they make WILL NOT BE ART seems extremely discouraging and kind of mean.
The takeaway should be that art is a thing that anyone should be free to try! And to be proud of the things you create!

There were quite a few buildings with burst pipes and without heat from what I heard here, though there was less widespread damage than I'd been afraid of. Still rough for the people who were impacted, but for the most part we came out okay, despite the damaging cold.

That too! It would likely be fairly intuitive for someone used to building that sort of thing. It's super crappy to immediately discount it from having artistic value! Double especially when doing so at the start of something that is intended to be an introduction and encouragement for a beginner!

Yeah, we generally have the infrastructure to handle the extreme temperatures and storms and such. I don't love that we get those events often enough to need it, but at least it's not the disaster that it can be in so many places where it's a lot less normal. It still causes issues here, but usually they seem to be a lot quicker to recover from.
