So, it turns out the 'new George Carlin special' wasn't AI resurrecting him, it was written by a human person. Some jerks just played a lot of people and got a lot of attention and engagement by lying. Ars Technica article. Ars Technica actually ran another article last week outright stating they didn't think the writing was AI, they called it. Due to the George Carlin Estate suing these bastards, the real details have come to light.
But, the march of AI into news continues. C Cargill keeps getting credited in articles as the writer of Iron Man 3 and he very much is not. But also in new media, since all my other news sources for gaming have fallen apart or stopped, I started following Bellular News. It's not exactly what I want as a news source, but I've been generally informed about gaming stuff for most of my adult life and I like having a basic outline of what's going on. He focuses too much on things like MOBAs and there are other things I'm not into but hey, here's there. Turns out he makes the show using AI. Not to organize his thoughts, but to check details... about gaming... AI is so not fit for purpose here. You really need to know the ins and outs to get details right in stories about MOBAs and MMOs and he always sounded like he did, but it was just BS. He uses AI for precisely what you should not use AI for, which is checking fine details 'so as not to disturb the workflow of my colleagues'. He justifies using AI to help generation his stories as respect for co-workers. And, stupidly, part of why I followed him is that he always sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Confidently incorrect is the hallmark of using AI to generate information for news reports.
Using AI to fact check and look up details is what AI is bad at in general, but for gaming it's going to be especially bad. I assume his mistakes were sliding by because people who play a lot of games, like GW2, are just used to even big outlets getting basic stuff wrong.

Also, I had seen the headlines about the AI George Carlin thing, but hadn't looked any deeper into it. I'm not surprised that this is another case of people trying to capitalize on AI's buzzwordiness to get attention... Amazing how people can try to make shitty things they do even shittier, somehow!
