* I finished and posted Lost in You. So, for Ushobwri's WIP-ed Into Shape event in February I've completed 3 projects. Lost is 3,909 words, Sweet is 1,060 and Comes At Last is 19,752. Since I only track completed fics in my planner, this year has started off with a bang.
Sweet is still wrangled wrong and I guess it doesn't matter, but it just annoys me.
* I've gotten a lot of good work done on The Librarians and the Dream Pools and also What The Storm Dragged In. I really want the Librarians fic done this month with interest in Backrooms being on the upswing and the new Librarians filming.
* Now for the thing that's rattling around in my mind. I'd decided a while back that if Steddie BB runs again I will do it, and, it's running again. It's only 10k, so I am not worried about the word count but I need to pick a good project. I need it chosen, planned and a few thou words written before I sign up just in case life is ... life.
I want a project that is very specifically 80s. A lot of big writers and artists tend to veer more 90s, sometimes intentionally and sometimes not. I think 90s is more relatable to a lot of people in fandom, but I like really digging into specifically 80s stuff. I don't want to do a canon retelling, AU or fusion. I like to really dig into the canon and setting. Thing is, THE 80s-centric fic I really wanted to do was Winding Ways and, well, I already did it.
If I add part 2 back in then What The Storm Dragged In suddenly is nearly done, unpublished, meets the word count and would get beta reading and art. I'd be way ahead of the curve, stress-free. But, this feels a little too indulgent and personal for a BB fic. The audience for it is really just me.
I do have that trans Eddie fic I've been meaning to come back to. I am not sure how much I actually wrote and I don't want to open the file yet. I want at least one more fic actually done before I revisit any other WIPs. Also, I had planned to do that fic for my Blue Ao3 account, and I plan to sign up with Green.
I also could do something else, but what? I do have other WIPs. Looking at my pile of folders, the werewolf and EMT fics are jumping out at me. I might poke through some more, but I don't want to poke too much or it will wreck my focus. There are a lot of fics in there I know I want to complete and I will keep thinking about them if I start opening those folders. I may need to come up with a new idea to start fresh.
Sign ups aren't until March 15, but the rest of Feb is going to be hunting down and killing current WIPs.
I've done 80s video piracy / indie movie scene, 80s gay bars / drag scene, 80s Portland, 80s access to gender affirming items, 80s D&D jokes and references...
I haven't done 80s gay bookstore, though I did touch on it with See More of Him.
Part of why I am excited to do this is having a chance to actually talk about my story while I am writing it, so I really want to choose the right project. I might wind up not having a lot of interactions via this BB, but I hope to.
I really want to choose the perfect project... without shattering my current focus by poking through WIPs and also without spending too much time that I could be spending on writing instead.
