I'd been looking forward to this because two different groups that do queer art pop ups were going to be at this neighborhood event, and also a group that does goth art fairs and pops was was there. I'm glad I went, but there were not nearly as many vendors as I hoped, the main road was not closed and I am not completely dead from walking around in a heat wave with almost no shade.

FoPo is a weird part of Portland, it's been 'up and coming' in recent years, so it's a mix of somewhat trendy bars, the hot new vegan ice cream place and also industrial stuff and supplies for people who live off-grid. Off-grid in the country/rural way, not the hippy or trad wife tiktok way. There are places very near the city were we just never ran the grid: no power, no water, no sewer, etc. Some gridless areas are right up against some swank areas.

Anyway, the duality of FoPo:

New indie vegan ice cream place I've been meaning to try:

Overstock at the wood fired stove place:

There is a home heating fuel store there I need to get good pictures of. I've shot it before, but I need to reshoot it. Today was not the day, I need like late day light.

Some of the vendors were clustered around the park, but heading towards that section it was like, you walk a whole block and there is one random table, walk another block and some family is has camped out on a corner to do a tag sale, walk another block and some guy is selling knives and I am pretty sure he's not officially part of anything, like the tag sale people just taking advantage of some of the building supply places being closed.

There were not a lot of queer art vendors, but the goth people, the Meet Your Maker Mart group, were there in force. I've never made it to one of their events and since the first vendor had illustrations that was 'coffins but with dicks and balls' ... yeah. I have been meaning to go to their events and I still plan to make one of the bigger ones, but this was got a great showing. I am not a goth so I can't say definitively, but I suspect a lot of what was there was just edgelord and not goth.

I am so tired. Glad I went even if it wasn't what I expected. I really need to spend a bit more time in FoPo. FoPo is really it's own place.

I wish I'd found more to buy, but I did get some stickers:

I like the stickers!

Sounds like an interesting area. Those spots where very different spaces (like trendy vegan ice cream + off-the-grid living) collide can be really fascinating.

Bummer the event wasn't quite as expected: more queer stuff and... better goth... might have been preferable. But I'm glad you went and that you're glad you went!
