Having a standard undercut that I did myself during the pandemic was cool. But, I am not sure what I want my hair to be after this. I am sort of over the whole undercut thing.

I am sure my feelings aren't at all affected by watching 10-20 year old shows and wanting a very dates floppy haircut. Nope, not at all. My hair is also thin and terrible and most cuts don't look good on me. The undercut actually works better than most cuts. I can finally get a real haircut in a week and will need to like tell them what I want. If I want to start growing my hair out a bit in places, I need to decide that. I just wish I knew what styles would look good on me and what my hair can actually do. Arg... the endless problem.

I got my hair completely chopped off in a pixie cut, as a mostly-symbolic act (Begone, 2020! Begone hair!); it's shorter than I've ever had it in my life. Honestly, it looks really cute on me but growing it out is going to be a pain -- it's reaching the "long enough to be in your eyes but not long enough to put up" stage. So I have to decide whether to keep it short, or live with headbands and bobby pins/barrettes for awhile until it grows out a little. Jury's still out -- I haven't decided yet. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I sympathize, though sort of from the opposite side. I tend to just leave my hair long and never even trim it, just because... I don't know what to do with it. I've had it cut shoulder-length, and I think it looked terrible, so I'm afraid to go shorter. It's also horribly uncooperative (thin and slightly wavy but mostly just prone to tangling and breakage.)

I like 10-20 year old dated floppy styles, though. Combine floppy and undercut and go for a fauxhawk?

Hard cosign on hairstylists being image consultants. I've *always* gotten bad advice when I try to ask, lol. Or they're like "look through the style books and see if you like anything! :D" and it's all stuff from before I was born and/or extremely avant garde like... sharp 45 degree diagonal cuts, lmao.

Oh jeez, that sounds terrible. Especially when it went so counter to what you'd specifically asked for! I'm glad you had it redone right away.

Wow, that's blunt. And pretty shitty. "The Look is more important than if it looks good!"

I'm glad you found something you want to do! I hope it works out and that you like it!

Next I need someone I can ask 'this sort of shirt I saw in TV show, where do I find things in this style IRL?'.
That would be a great resource.

Good luck with choosing a hair style! I never know the names of various types of cut so usually leave it to my hairdresser who is fortunately an excellent trustworthy lady. We discuss what I like and don't like and have settled into a the "norm" as it were - can you trust your current hairdresser or do you need to make up your mind definitively prior to your appointment?
